Can I Collect Workers’ Comp and Social Security Disability Benefits at the Same Time?

Sally from Moscow asks, can I collect Workers’ Compensation and Social Security Disability benefits at the same time? Social Security Disability is governed by federal law and it takes a credit for other sources of income. And by collecting Workers’ Compensation and Social Security, you actually lower your Social Security payments. But, it’s very common to collect both. And, if you receive a Workers’ Compensation settlement, a lump sum award, that can be projected over your lifetime to actually increase the amount of Social Security benefits that you would be restricted in receiving from having both. So, the bottom line is, yes, you can collect both, but Social Security gets a credit.
