Can I collect Social Security Retirement and Social Security Disability?

Greg from Pittston asks, “Can I collect Social Security Retirement and Social Security Disability?” The simple answer is no, but it may be to your advantage to apply for both. Social Security Retirement is based upon your age. Traditionally, it had always been 65 years old for full retirement, but now it’s 66 or 67 years old depending on when you were born. You can take early retirement at age 62 at a much lesser rate. If you are 62 years old and unable to work, you can apply for both disability and retirement. And, if disability is granted, you can defer your retirement until you reach full retirement age or, in other words, get your full amount of money for retirement. If you are unable to work, it’s a good idea to consult with an attorney to determine what benefits you may be entitled to from the Social Security Administration.
