How do I get my criminal record expunged?

Helen from Brodheadsville asks, “How do I get my criminal record expunged?” In Pennsylvania, expunging a criminal record is not that easy. A conviction for misdemeanors or felonies cannot be expunged until you reach the age of 70 and, even then, special conditions have to apply. Arrest records or convictions for some re-offenses after five years can be expunged with court approval. Similarly, diversionary programs, like an ARD program, also can be expunged with a court order, but are not automatically expunged just because you completed the program. If you have questions regarding your criminal record, you should contact an attorney familiar with the expungement laws and how to clean up a criminal record.
