Tips For Avoiding Rollover Accidents

There are various precautions available to drivers to minimize the danger from rollover accidents. Some of them may be costly or expensive, but all of them will help decrease the chances of involvement in a rollover accident. These precautions relate to the following:

Tips For Avoiding Rollover AccidentsVehicle speed: Higher speeds increase a vehicle’s tendency to roll over. About 40 percent of fatal rollovers include instances of excessive speed.

Vehicle load: Overloading a vehicle, including placing a load on the roof of the vehicle, especially an SUV or pickup, decreases its stability.

Vehicle safety systems: Many newer vehicles have state-of-the-art safety systems, including side airbags and electronic stability control.

Safety belts: Approximately 50 percent of deaths in rollover accidents occur when the driver or passengers are partly or completely ejected from the vehicle. Seat belts will minimize this risk of being thrown from or thrown around the vehicle during a rollover accident.

Tire wear and pressure: Tires should always have proper tread and be inflated to their recommended pressure.

Rural roads: Almost 75 percent of fatal rollover accidents occur in rural areas on roads where the speed limit is 55 mph or higher. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these roads are usually undivided highways without barriers and are thus more unsafe.
