The Pennsylvania Task Force on Child Protection on Tuesday recommended major changes in state child abuse laws. The task force conducted a year-long review of the laws following the Jerry Sandusky arrest on child molestation charges.
The task force report concluded that Pennsylvania child abuse laws should be rewritten to include stiffer penalties for failing to report the crime, as well as redefining child abuse itself and who should be required to report it.
According to an account of the action in USA Today, the recommendations are nonbinding and will probably require a set of as-yet-unwritten bills for the Legislature to consider when it convenes for a new two-year session in January.
The story, in its entirety, can be found in the nation section of www.usatoday.com.
