A ruling by a New York state trial judge on Monday that thwarted New York City’s plan to limit the size of sugary soft drinks to 16 ounces has once again put the legal issues surrounding the ban in the spotlight.
An article by Georgetown University health law professor Lawrence O. Gostin, published on CNN’s web site, brings up some interesting legal viewpoints in support of a high-sugar drink ban. Gostin is professor and director of the university’s O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law and director of the World Health Organization’s Center on Public Health Law and Human Rights. Powell Law’s goal is to provide information on the issue while not taking a position for or against it.
