Brian from Avoca asks, “How are workers’ compensation benefits calculated?” Your wage benefits, or indemnification benefits, are based upon a formula that is two-thirds of your average weekly wage. In Pennsylvania, your average weekly wage is generally calculated by taking the highest quarter in a 12-month period of time before your injury. However, there are other formulas that can be used if that does not apply in your case – for example, if you had two jobs, or worked seasonally, or did not have four full quarters in place before you were injured. In order to make sure that your wage benefits are being calculated correctly, you should have your average weekly wage reviewed by an attorney to make sure that you are receiving the maximum indemnification benefits that you are entitled to if you are injured at work.
