Chris’ Criminal Law Comments: Bail Part 3
By Christopher T. Powell Jr., Esq.
The reason for bail is to ensure the defendant will appear at all subsequent proceedings. The types of release on bail include:
- Release on your own recognizance (ROR).
- Release on unsecured bail bond. This means a release conditioned upon the defendant’s written agreement that he/she will be liable for a fixed sum of money if he/she fails to appear as required.
- Release on nominal bail such as $1.
- Release on monetary condition. This is the most common type of bail where a person is released upon the posting of a specified sum of money.
The two most common are types of bail are cash bail and unsecured bail.
